Established
in 1978, Lutes Custom Woodworking has become the definitive name in
fine architectural woodworking.
Founder and owner Bill Lutes began
honing his craft at the age of six with his craftsman grandfather at a wooden boat yard in southern California.
By the age of ten he spent his summers and after school working for his builder uncle swinging a hammer with two hands or mixing mortar in a wheelbarrow.
After graduating from Pacific Union College in California's Napa Valley,
Mr. Lutes spent the next two years working as a construction superintendent
for a prestigious custom home builder in the Napa Valley.
In September of 1978, Mr. Lutes started Lutes Custom Woodworking.
His artistry blended with his years of wood crafting experience and
formal engineering training resulted in immediate success. As his
business has grown, Mr. Lutes has continued to maintain the highest
standards of craftsmanship and design by selectively hiring talented
artisans who share his vision of excellence in creative woodworking.
In 2001 Mr. Lutes created Architectural Adornments, Inc, a line of hand carved
wood products designed by the designers of LCW and produced by a partner factory in China. Over the course of the last seven years AAI has set the industry tone for quality, design and wood diversity.
Bill Lutes and his artist/photographer wife, Diana Welch, dba. Solas Photography, currently reside and maintain their studios in the rural Oregon community of New Era, 30 miles south of Portland, OR.
